There are a lot of ecological function area within Kanbula Geopark, including Kanbula National Forest Park, Dongguo Forest Farm, Gushidang Pasture, Lancai Forest Farm, and Maixiu National Forest Park. With the nourishment of the Yellow River, Longwu River and other river systems, there are very rich animal and plant resources, which is a rare gene bank of species on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. There are more than 100 kinds of wild animals, the Canidae family have wolves, jackals, foxes; the Cat family have snow leopard, lynx; the Cricetid family have otter, badger. There are plateau rabbits in the rabbit family; the Squirrel family have marmots and squirrels; the Deer family have red deer, sika deer and water deer; the Bovidae family have sheep and so on. The Bird family have Tibetan snow chicken, blue horse chicken, ringnecked pheasant, rock chicken, snow chicken, rock dove, and vulture.  

There are more than 870 species of trees, shrubs and herbs in 85 families in the Geopark, including more than 130 species of trees and shrubs, more than 80 species of flowers with high ornamental value and more than 250 species of wild plants with high economic value.The wild Tibetan medicinal herbs are snow lotus, rhubarb, Codonopsis, Gentiana, astragalus, etc.

In the Geopark, there are 3 species of first-level national protected plants, 3 species of second-level national protected plants and 2 species of third-level national protected plants. There are 6 species of national first-class protected animals, 14 species of National second-class protected animals, and 16 species of provincial protected animals.
