On January 20th, Zhaxi Cairang, Director of the Kanbula Scenic Area Management Committee, Chen Yunzhang, Deputy Director, and Hao Zugong, Director of the Tourism Planning Department, together with the technical support unit, Professor Tian Mingzhong, a senior expert in the construction of UNESCO Global Geoparks and doctoral supervisor at China University of Geosciences Beijing, and Wang Xinning, General Manager of Qinghai Xingren Culture and Tourism Development Co., Ltd., held a symposium to discuss the sustainable development of the Kanbula Geopark.
At the symposium, Director Zhaxi Cairang had an in-depth exchange and discussion with Professor Tian Mingzhong regarding the key work and target tasks for the sustainable development of Kanbula Geopark in the future, following its successful establishment as a Global Geopark.
Professor Tian Mingzhong pointed out that the application for the Kanbula Global Geopark was unanimously approved at the UNESCO Global Geoparks Network Executive Bureau meeting in September 2024, marking the transition of Kanbula Geopark from a regional to a global stage. The year 2025, as the inaugural year for the Kanbula Global Geopark, is a crucial period for consolidating the foundation for its development. It is essential to focus on multiple aspects, including management institutions, infrastructure, display and visibility construction, cooperation and exchange, scientific research and popular science, integration of culture and tourism, community development, and the establishment of geological schools. The management institution should formulate a detailed and specific "Four-Year Action Plan" around the official opening, operational development, and the re-assessment in four years, and implement it effectively to ensure the sustainable development of the Kanbula Global Geopark in the future.
