On September 17th, the delegation of Kanbula Geopark received good news. Kanbula Geopark's application was unanimously approved at the UNESCO Global Geopark Network Executive Board meeting to be held during the 8th Asia Pacific Global Geopark Conference in Vietnam. It will soon become the second global geopark in Qinghai Province after Kunlun Mountain Global Geopark. The final result will be announced on the UNESCO official website in mid March 2025.640.jpg

Kanbula Geopark is located in Huangnan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Qinghai Province, with a total area of 3149 square kilometers. There are more than 100 geological relics discovered in the park, including the Hongtu Mountain Cretaceous estuary group, the Triassic Longwu River group unconformity, the Longwu River Triassic section, and the Maixiu Mesozoic volcanic group. It is an excellent place to study and analyze the tectonic evolution of the ancient Tethys Ocean Triassic and the ocean land transition, and is a true witness to the transformation of the sea into the land. The landslide group on the south bank of the Yellow River is a highly representative landslide group in the Yellow River Basin on the northern slope of the Qinghai Tibet Plateau. It is a natural museum for studying giant landslides and climate change in the upper reaches of the Yellow River.

Successfully created a global geopark

The successful establishment of the World Geopark will add another world-class "golden signboard" to the creation of Huangnan Prefecture as an international ecotourism destination "Southeast Gateway". Zhaxi Cairang, Deputy Secretary of the Communist Party of China Huangnan Prefecture Committee and Governor, pointed out that Huangnan should take advantage of the situation, polish the "golden signboard" of the World Geopark, develop the cultural and tourism industry comprehensively and with high quality, and create a new landmark of cultural and tourism in Qinghai.

To seek innovation and change in the development of parks

Pay attention to the relationship between protection and tourism, explore the value of geological research, innovate the integration of cultural and tourism elements, and explore the creation of a development pattern that integrates ecological protection, science popularization research, cultural and tourism integration, and industrial driving.

To benchmark the table in park management

Pay attention to benchmarking mature global geoparks at home and abroad, learn from advanced concepts in geopark management, strengthen the construction of park professional teams, actively cooperate with relevant research institutions and universities at home and abroad, and form a collaborative and efficient management model.
