The Presentation of Kanbula Aspiring UNESCO Global Geopark is held

On July 22nd, the presentation of Kanbula Aspiring UNESCO Global Geopark was held.  UNESCO Global Geopark evaluators Dr. Mahito WATANABE and Ms. Jagoda WOLOSZYN attended the meeting.  Ms. Yuan Xiaohong, deputy director of the National Forestry and Grassland Administration hosts the meeting.  Mr. Zhao Zhizhong, deputy director of the National Geopark Network Center Office;  Mr. Han Qiang, deputy director of Qinghai Forestry and Grassland Bureau; Mr. Zhu Zhanmin, Secretary of the Huangnan CPC Committee; Mr. Zhaxi Cairang, Governor of the People's Government of Huangnan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture; Mr. Peng Zuowei, Member of the Standing Committee and Secretary-General of the Huangnan Prefecture CPC Committee; Mr. Gengzhi Cairang, Deputy Governor of the People's Government of Huangnan Prefecture; Mr. Min Tonggong, Secretary General of the People's Government of Huangnan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture general office, members of the expert and technical team of Kanbula Aspiring UNESCO Global Geopark, as well as responsible comrades of relevant regions and relevant departments, party member representatives, representatives of the people's congress, community representatives, teachers and students representatives in the geopark are also attended.

In the meeting, the participants watched the application video of Kanbula Aspiring UNESCO Global Geopark.  The Governor Zhaxi Cairang delievered an enthusiastic speech, sincerely expressed his gratitude and welcome to UNESCO evaluators.  He said that Kanbula Geopark has recorded the transformation of the earth, the people of different ethnic groups have lives on the territory united from generation to generation, with a strong believe that mountains and water are the precious gift from nature, guarding every plant and tree.  All these elements have created a touching story on Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau.  The development concept of the Global Geopark conforms to the long-term plan of protecting the geoheritages in the region and meets the realistic needs of sustainable development in Huangnan Autonomic Prefecture.  In recent years, with the supports from National Forestry and Grassland Administration and provincial level, the application work has been actively promoted, the protection and research of geological heritages, the popularization of science, and the communication and exchange have been widely carried out.  The visibility and influence of Kanbula geopark have been continuously improved, and the economic and social development of the whole prefecture has moved to a higher quality.  Mr. Zhaxi Cairang also expected that Kanbula Geoperk could be a member of UNESCO Global Geopark family, let the world know Huangnan Autonomic Prefecture, let Huangnan Autonomic Prefecture well-known to the world.

Volunteer from China University of Geosciences (Beijing) on behalf of Kanbula Geopark comprehensively introduced the progress of the Geopark development during recent years from eight subjects, including the Unified Geographic Area, The International Significance of Geoheritage, Other Natural and Cultural Resourses, Education and Research, Sustainable Development, Management Organization, Exchange and Cooperation, and Concluding Remarks.

The UNESCO global geopark evaluators Dr.Mahito Watanabe and Ms. Jagoda Woloszyn appreciated the great work done by everyone from Kanbula Aspiring UNESCO Global Geopark, and showed great interests in the spectacular and unique geoheritages and the profound national culture in the geopark.

In the following days, the evaluators will carried out onsite evaluation mission in Kanbula Geopark Museum, the Kanbula Geopark school and other 30 geological or natural and cultural sites.
